IRCTC Rail Travel Insurance

The train tragedy in Odisha on Friday has made travel insurance more crucial than ever. It should be noted that travelers have the option to choose a travel insurance policy when purchasing train tickets through the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website or mobile app.

10 things you should know about the IRCTC travel insurance.

  1.  The optional insurance is only available to Indian citizens who purchase their e-tickets via the IRCTC website or mobile application.
  2. If a passenger chooses insurance, the claim or liability applies between the insured and the insurance provider.
  3. According to the IRCTC website, each passenger under the PNR is covered by the IRCTC travel insurance scheme in the event of death, permanent total disability, permanent partial disability, hospitalization costs for injury, and transportation of mortal remains following a rail accident or other untoward incident.
  4. All classes maintain a uniform travel insurance program.
  5. When a customer chooses an insurance policy, the insurance companies send the customer the information about the policy via SMS and on the registered email addresses, along with a link for filling out the nomination information. The ticket booked history on the IRCTC page also displays the policy number.
  6. On the website of the appropriate insurance company, the nomination information must be entered after the ticket purchase. According to IRCTC, if the nomination's specifics are incomplete, the claim will be settled with the nominee's legitimate heirs.
  7.  If a passenger chooses to use an alternate mode of transportation set up by the railroad to get to their destination station in the event that a train is cut short for any reason, their portion of the trip is also covered by the travel insurance they purchased.
  8. If a train is diverted for any reason, the coverage is still in effect for the new route.
  9. Once the passengers have paid the premium, no cancellations are permitted. As a result, there is never a refund given, even for tickets that are on the waitlist.
  10. However, the IRCTC portal states that children under the age of five are not covered by the optional travel insurance.

In light of recent events such as the Odisha train accident, it is crucial to prioritize safety and be prepared for the unexpected. By availing the IRCTC travel insurance, you can travel with greater peace of mind, knowing that you have taken a step towards safeguarding your well-being and that of your loved ones.

Remember, safety should always be a priority, and opting for IRCTC travel insurance is a responsible choice. Stay informed, stay safe, and travel with confidence!
